Karen Kshiti Suvarna’s Critically Acclaimed Bilingual Debut Celebrated in Bharat Panorama at SKICC, Srinagar

The International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir IFFJK 2026 concluded on a high note today with the screening of “September 21” in the esteemed Bharat Panorama section during its Closing Ceremony at SCREEN 1, Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre SKICC.

The film, made in Hindi & Kannada , stood out among 2000+ submissions from across India and the world to earn a place in this prestigious section that showcases the best of contemporary Indian cinema.

A Journey of Recognition 

Directed by debut filmmaker Karen Kshiti Suvarna L, “September 21” has been making waves since its World Premiere at Marché du Film, Festival de Cannes. The film was later selected as an Official Entry at NIFFA – National Indian Film Festival of Australia 2025, further cementing its global appeal.

Speaking about the selection, the festival jury noted the film’s “quiet power, emotional honesty, and rooted storytelling” as key reasons for its inclusion in Bharat Panorama.

The film has resonated deeply with critics and audiences alike , September 21 explores themes of memory, loss, and healing through the lens of a journey. Shot across the misty landscapes of Karnataka, the film blends regional authenticity with universal emotion.

For Karen Kshiti Suvarna, having her first feature screen at IFFJK 2026’s Bharat Panorama — in front of an audience of filmmakers, critics, and cinema lovers from 41 countries — marks a defining moment.

“This selection means the world to our entire team,” said director Karen Kshiti Suvarna. “To present September 21 in Kashmir, at a festival that celebrates diversity and new voices, is incredibly special. The response today was overwhelming.”

The festival, organized by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir in collaboration with NFDC, received over 2000+ entries and is screening 135+ films across Srinagar, Jammu, and Gulmarg as part of its mission to promote film tourism and cultural exchange.
